Methyl salicylate (Methyl 2-hydroxybenzoate)

Also known as wintergreen oil. It is a colorless or light yellow transparent viscous liquid, with a strong sweet, fruity odor. It naturally occurs in gaultheria procumbens, wintergreen or some fruits. It is not water-soluble. It is soluble in ethanol, ether, acetic acid and other common organic solvent.
